Audio files come in many formats, but the most popular ones are WAVE, MP3 and MIDI. Converting WAVE to MP3 or vice versa is not hard, but converting one of these to MIDI is more difficult. Due to the different natures of these formats, converting MP3 or WAVE to MIDI is like using a speech or text recognition software. Thanks to WIDI Recognition System Pro, converting from one of these formats to another will not be so difficult. You will need a few minutes to make heads or tails of its functions, but when you do, you will see that it is a very useful tool.

The installation kit is almost 6 Mb large and it can be downloaded even with a weaker Internet connection. The software can be installed swiftly on most Windows versions and it does not require top of the line hardware.

Although the interface looks crowded with all sorts of options to click on, WIDI Recognition System Pro is easier to use than other similar software. You can load an audio file, like in any other program, by browsing for it or by clicking and dragging it over the interface. When loading a file, its editing options will be displayed on a new window, within the program's main window.

According to the type of file you load, the options will be different. Besides MP3 or WAVE files, you can also import AIFF files, WMA and others, rip an audio CD or start recording with a microphone. The recording feature can be used on a separate window, where you can adjust polyphony and noise gate levels, as well as other aspects, in real time. The aforementioned files types are raw sounds and when you load one of them, a new sub-window will display its sound waves for both left and right channels. You can select certain fragments of the audio track with simple click and drag actions and cut, copy or delete them with the aid of toolbar buttons.

After performing these basic editing options, you can transcribe the audio file into MIDI commands by clicking a button on the toolbar. The program will process the file and you will have to wait for a progress bar to fill. When it is done, you can choose a tonality, such as D minor, G major and so on. The MIDI commands will be displayed on a new sub-window. Here, you can perform various actions like moving, deleting or adding new musical notes.

If you launch the program for the first time and you don't know where to start, a wizard can be launched from the File menu and it will guide you step by step with clear instructions. If you take your time to look around the menus or toolbar, you will find other features which will let you edit MIDI files in a flexible and comfortable way.

Pros

WIDI Recognition System Pro lets you transcribe standard audio files into MIDI commands. It is easier to use than other similar software due to the smart and logical design of the interface.

Cons

The software's trial version does not let you save more than 10 seconds of MIDI data. Audio files can be transposed to MIDI data easier with WIDI Recognition System Pro. It only takes a few minutes to get used to the powerful features it provides.
